One thing that would be a great addition Damian, is being able to define a ratio or size for the crop, for example 8x10 or 5x7, maybe in the dialogue box ? I think that would take it to the next level. Your script is amazing the way it is but with that little addition will be perfect and you'll be my hero. I tried my transparent sheet over the figures above and I'm sure they're not covered. This center diagonals are also related to the golden ratio but in a more natural, easy way. I use a transparent sheet to analyze the great masters and you'll be surprised how many times they use this simpler method. That gives you four guiding lines in the rectangle. The only option I miss is the plain Diagonal Method, which is simply the center diagonal of each angle (that mean 45 degrees). I use this kind of grids during my shooting, using the CHDK program in my compact. I was jelous of Lightroom for having this. I really love this, big thanks, dsfotography, amazing work. Although I had been doing rule of thirds for years with the custom shape I wasn't able to rotate it, turn into a selection and crop at the rotated aspect.

Having done some minor work with javascript for websites, I'm impressed. This will make a great teaching tool also. If you’re working with that golden spiral, place the subject farther out than the Rule of Thirds intersection. If you chose the Phi Grid, place the subject closer to the centre of the image compared to that Rule of Thirds intersection. Use the Rule of Thirds grid and estimate where the subject should be with the golden ratio technique.

You’ll want to place the subject on the intersection of the lines with the grid, or in the smallest part of the spiral. Next, choose which corner of the image to use. If you don’t have an electronic viewfinder, you have to imagine the grid as you shoot and check with Live View. Even if that isn’t the composition guide you are using, it’s helpful to enable the feature. Most cameras will have the Rule of Thirds. You can find the options if you go to the settings. Check which built-in grid overlays your camera has. If you simplify the concept, it’s a bit easier to manage. Imagining a complex spiral aligned over your photo can be tricky at first.
